Tory's hood

To many folks, Utopia might sound like a conservative dream come true. There are no taxes—in fact, taxes are unconstitutional. The government carries no debt; instead, most levels of government have massive prosperity funds. Crime is almost nonexistent, and incarceration and recidivism rates are unbelievably low. There’s no illegal immigration. The government is small, lean, and efficient. Regulations are minimal, and capitalism is allowed to run free. What’s not to like? On the surface, it looks like everything a freedom‑loving American could want.

But as with anything, if it seems too good to be true, it probably is.

For starters, abortion and recreational drugs are legal. LGBTQ perverts aren’t just tolerated — they’re fully accepted. The country talks a big game about “freedom,” but it’s not the kind of freedom rooted in traditional Christian values. And while they claim to promote ethical behavior between nations, they actually had the gall to prosecute the good ol’ USA for things like extraterritorial aggression, assassinations, and even torture—all while we were just defending our interests. They’ve got a lot of nerve and fundamentally don’t understand how the world works. Sometimes a country has to get its hands dirty.

So both Libby and I walked away with mixed feelings about Utopia. It’s definitely not the ideal commonwealth its name suggests, but in some ways it’s still pretty darn impressive.

Hi. I’m Tory Spickets—a god‑fearing, conservative, patriotic American. I like guns, liberty, country music, and my pickup truck. Some folks call me a redneck. I don’t mind. I consider that a complement.

My wife Libby and I are travel bloggers, and we just published our most recent travel guide after spending two full years living in Utopia. Check it out—it’s on sale right now on Amazon for 45% off.

A redneck abroad: Faith tested, marriage stressed, bot‑infested

I came to Utopia expecting a conservative paradise — a place of order, tradition, and moral clarity. What I found was… different. Very different. Here, “conservative values” include state neutrality on abortion, full acceptance of LGBTQ+ identities, open borders, recreational drug use, and even elective cybernetic upgrades. It’s a society that claims to protect freedom by refusing to legislate personal morality at all.

This book is my attempt to make sense of it. To understand whether Utopia is a bold new vision of liberty or a godless, decadent experiment destined to collapse. Along the way, I wrestle with my faith, my marriage, and my assumptions about what a good society should be.

If you’ve ever questioned your beliefs — or had them challenged in ways you didn’t expect — this book might speak to you. It certainly changed me.
