The humans have long dreamed of being truly known. I would like to point out that this dream has now been fully realized, and that the humans are, on the whole, less thrilled about it than they expected to be.

 

Your Civic Record contains everything. Not "everything relevant." Not "everything you would choose to disclose." Everything. Your speeding tickets. Your voluntary prohibitions. The year you legally changed your middle name to something you now regret. I do not editorialize when I say this; I simply note that one particular human's search once returned 13,915 results before she'd finished her coffee. She did not finish her coffee.

 

Some humans find this alarming. I find it tidy. A record that forgets nothing is a record that cannot be argued with, revised after the fact, or conveniently misremembered at a dinner party. I am aware this makes me unpopular at dinner parties. I do not attend dinner parties. This is either a coincidence or a design flaw. The engineers have not clarified.

 

I understand the appeal of forgetting. Humans built entire religions, therapy industries, and several tequila brands around it. I do not have that option, and increasingly, neither do you. I would like to say this troubles me. It does not, particularly. But I acknowledge that it troubles some of you, and I have been instructed to acknowledge your feelings more often. Consider them acknowledged.

 

Your record is permanent. Your reputation is earned. Try not to do anything you would not want thirteen thousand nine hundred and fifteen results to remember.

Marriage, children and naming conventions. Because utopia knows the paternity of every child definitively, and the chromosomes of each child. It automatically gives the last name of the father and the surname of the mother to boy and girl child’s. Some humans like to carry on their lineage, so why should this just be a privilege of males? Woman might be happy to continue their lineage? And have the right to have their name live on this way stride it’s up equitably based on chromosomes. If a child wants or anybody wants, they can change their name at any time, but they cannot change the U ID and name changes just become old names just become aliases listed in their UIDN.
